The aesthetic beauty and symmetry of the Platonic solids have made them a favorite subject for thousands of years. They are named for the ancient Greek philosopher Plato, who theorized that the classical elements were constructed from the regular solids.

According to Stephen Skinner, the study of sacred geometry has its roots in the study of nature, and the mathematical principles at work therein. Many forms observed in nature can be related to geometry, for example, the chambered nautilus grows at a constant rate and so its shell forms a logarithmic spiral to accommodate that growth without changing shape. Also, honeybees construct hexagonal cells to hold their honey. These and other correspondences are seen by believers in sacred geometry to be further proof of the cosmic significance of geometric forms. These phenomena can be explained through natural principles.

Tetrahedron: A tetrahedron, also known as a triangular pyramid, is a polyhedron composed of four triangular faces, six straight edges, and four vertex corners. Connected to the element of Fire and the Sun and the life it gives.

Hexahedron: A hexahedron is any polyhedron with six faces. A cube, for example, is a regular hexahedron. Very grounding and connected to Earth.

Octahedron: An octahedron is a polyhedron with eight faces, twelve edges, and six vertices. Connected to the element of Air, the breath of life.

Icosahedron: An icosahedron is a polyhedron with 20 faces. Connected to the element of Water which allows us to cleanse and heal and refuel.

Dodecahedron: A dodecahedron is any polyhedron with twelve flat faces. Connected to Spirit and reminds us to trust our intuition.
